Worry that won’t switch off?
See an Australian GP about anxiety, from home. Work out what’s going on, make a plan, and get regular check-ins.
What it can look like
- Worrying most days, about lots of things, and finding it hard to stop
- Feeling on edge, restless or wound up
- Racing heart, tight chest or shortness of breath with no clear cause
- Sudden waves of panic
- Avoiding places, people or situations because of how they make you feel
- Trouble sleeping because your mind won’t quieten
When to talk to a GP
If anxiety is affecting your work, sleep, relationships or the things you’d normally do, it’s worth talking to a GP. Physical symptoms are worth checking too, so your GP can rule out other causes.
About an hour with your GP
How your GP can help
Assessment
Your GP asks about your symptoms, what sets them off and how long they’ve been around, and checks for physical causes where needed.
A plan for you
That can include strategies you can start straight away, talking therapy, and medication if your GP thinks it’s right for you.
Regular reviews
Your GP keeps track of how you’re going and adjusts the plan with you.
How it works
Request an appointment
Tell us a little about what’s going on. It takes about two minutes, and you don’t need a referral.
We call you to book
Our team calls to find a time that suits and confirms any fee before you’re booked.
Your mental health assessment
About an hour by video with a GP. Time to properly talk through what’s happening.
Start your plan
Treatment can start straight away if your GP thinks it’s right for you, with regular reviews after that.
What does it cost?
Bulk billed for eligible patients.
If you’re not eligible, a consultation fee may apply, and we’ll confirm it with you before your consult.
Medicines your GP prescribes are dispensed by your own pharmacy, and PBS-listed medicines are subsidised as usual.
Mental health assessment
- A full assessment with an AHPRA-registered GP
- A plan written for you
- Treatment can start the same day if appropriate
- Regular reviews with your GP
Your GP makes the call
A consultation doesn’t guarantee a prescription. Your GP recommends what’s clinically appropriate for you, and you decide together.
A real conversation
Every appointment is a video consultation with an AHPRA-registered Australian GP, with time to properly talk things through.
Not for emergencies
If you or someone else is in danger, call 000. For 24/7 crisis support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Common questions
Can a GP treat anxiety?
Yes. Anxiety is one of the most common things GPs help with. Your GP can assess you, start treatment and review you over time.
Is stress the same as anxiety?
Not quite. Stress usually eases when the pressure does. Anxiety tends to hang around and can show up without a clear reason. Either is worth talking about if it’s affecting your life.
Can I talk about panic attacks by video?
Yes. A video appointment works well for talking through what’s happening. If your GP thinks you need a physical check, they’ll tell you.
