A mental health assessment, from home.
About an hour by video with an Australian GP. A full picture of what’s going on, a plan you agree on together, and treatment that can start the same day if it’s right for you.
What happens in your assessment
Your GP takes the time to understand you before suggesting anything. You can talk about as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.
- What you’re experiencing, and for how long
- Your physical health, medications and history
- Sleep, alcohol, work, relationships and stress
- Standard questionnaires that help measure how you’re going
- A check on your safety
- Blood tests to rule out physical causes, if needed

About the assessment
What is a mental health assessment?
It’s a longer appointment where a GP gets a full picture of your mental health: what you’re experiencing, how long it’s been going on, your health and history, and what you’d like to change. It ends with a plan.
How long does it take?
About an hour. That leaves time to talk things through properly rather than rushing.
Will I get a diagnosis?
If your GP can make one, they’ll talk it through with you. Sometimes it takes more than one appointment to get a clear picture, and that’s normal.
Can treatment start straight away?
If your GP thinks it’s right for you, yes. That may include medication, but a consultation doesn’t guarantee a prescription.
Is it the same as a mental health care plan?
Not exactly. A care plan is a Medicare document linked to psychology rebates, and since November 2025 it needs to come from your usual GP or MyMedicare practice for the rebate. Our assessment covers the same ground clinically. See our care plan guide for the details.
